Nurlan Smagulov urged the owners of the shopping and entertainment centers to sign a memorandum with the Department of Emergency Situation (DES) of Almaty and Astana
The Head of Astana Group informed about it during a briefing on fire safety, which was held in MEGA Alma-Ata. He also encouraged other shopping centers of the country to join this memorandum.
After the tragic events in Zimnyaya Vishnya (Winter Cherry), a shopping mall in Kemerovo, Kazakhstanis got seriously worried about the issues of fire safety. The specialists of the MEGA shopping and entertainment center chain were the first to address these issues. They were ready not only to respond questions related to safety, but also to take additional measures so that visitors feel here as safe as possible. The Head of the Company, Nurlan Smagulov, initiated the signing of a memorandum with DES of Almaty and Astana on unscheduled inspections of all shopping and entertainment centers of the chain. Currently, such inspections can take place no more than once a year according to law.
«We think that it is insufficient to inspect the shopping centers once a year, and we want to sign a memorandum with DES of Almaty and Astana on unscheduled inspections of our shopping centers. And I encourage other owners of the shopping centers in Almaty, Astana, and other regional centers to join this memorandum so that people can trust our shopping centers, and let DES come and check at any time despite all legislative restrictions,” said Nurlan Smagulov.
Many journalists and bloggers of the city attended the fire safety briefing. It looked like a public hearing where everybody could speak out. At the briefing, the management of the MEGA shopping and entertainment center chain promised to continue its work on safety issues and eliminate the shortcomings that may arise.
«We know that all our fire safety systems work 100%, but, nevertheless, these events make us approach the issue of checking of the systems more thoroughly, and we will definitely do this work,” noted Seitzhan Yesmagambetov, General Director of the MEGA shopping and entertainment center chain.
Each of the three MEGA shopping centers provides a full range of fire protection measures: a fire alarm, an automated warning system, several fire extinguishing systems, a smoke exhaust system, emergency exits and stairs, own fire departments, and fire trucks that work 24 hours a day. All systems are checked on a daily basis, and fire drills are held once a month with the participation of the specialists from DES.
