THE LEADERS OF KAZAKHSTAN AND UZBEKISTAN TOOK PART IN THE OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY OF MEGA SILK WAY

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited MEGA Silk Way, which is characterized by a special conceptual atmosphere and a new level of cultural entertainment.

On the occasion of the official opening of the shopping center and celebration of Nauryz, a festive program was held in MEGA Silk Way with the participation of the HASSAK ethno-folk ensemble, acrobats, equilibrists as well as pageantry, a fair of craftspeople and painters.

On March 6, 2017, MEGA Silk Way was partially opened. According to international practice, the partial opening of the shopping center involves allowing free access to the building when only some of the shops are open, but the shopping and entertainment center is ready to receive visitors. By the opening day of the shopping center, 93% of the premises were leased and the other 7% of the premises were at the signing stage. This is the highest rate of tenancy at the time of opening of a shopping center across the entire MEGA chain.

Within first days of the opening, MEGA Silk Way became a center of attraction for residents and guests of the capital. The shopping center is a part of the architectural ensemble of the EXPO-2017 International Exhibition. It is located in a fast growing district near residential area, Nazarbayev University, the National Ballet Academy, and other socially important landmarks. The inner space of MEGA Silk Way, which is almost 1.5 million m3, is filled with light and air so that guests of the shopping mall always feel comfortable. The ratio of commercial area to the total area is 62%. The other third of the commercial space (32%) consists of educational, sport, recreational, and social projects. In MEGA Silk Way one can find the EVRIKUM Scientific Adventure Park, the KANGO trampoline park, the 11-screen Chaplin premium cinema, the Happylon family entertainment park as well as «a city square” for fairs, exhibitions, and concerts where a Mega Ice mobile rink will operate in winter time.

In MEGA Silk Way both domestic and foreign brands are represented, such as Technodom, Mimioriki, QLP, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Armani Exchange and others. Later, the famous brand H&M will open its doors in MEGA Silk Way. The art objects in MEGA Silk Way create a special conceptual atmosphere. Inspired by a project to re-create the Great Silk Road, a group of Kazakhstani sculptors, led by Nurlan Dalbaу, have made a series of sculptures that symbolize the movement.

MEGA Silk Way has become a model of a shopping mall of the future. In many respects, the success of the project was enhanced by MEGA’s partners: the architectural bureau — Chapman Taylor (Great Britain) and the general contractor — Renaissance Construction JSC (Russia, a branch in Astana).
