ASTANA MOTORS RECEIVES AWARD FOR ADVANCING INDUSTRIAL LOCALIZATION AT KGIR-2025
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held the award ceremony during the VIII Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable (KGIR-2025) that ended in Astana.
Astana Motors earned the "For the Contribution to Manufacturing Localization" award.
"Our objective is to build a comprehensive automotive industry cycle, including component production. To achieve this, we are constructing vehicle plants with a high degree of knock-down production. Furthermore, a component production technological cluster has been opened in the Almaty Industrial Zone, focusing on multimedia systems and automotive seats. Our journey started in 2011 with the launch of a bus and commercial vehicle manufacturing plant in Almaty. In 2020, we constructed the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. The facility was then upgraded and robotized in 2023-2024. This year, we launched the multibrand Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan plant with an annual capacity of 120,000 vehicles. This is currently the largest enterprise in terms of CKD production volume," commented Astana Motors CEO Beknur Nesipbayev after receiving the award.

Production localization creates long-term value for Kazakhstan's economy. For Astana Motors, this represents progress in establishing a full industrial ecosystem that lowers import dependence, reduces logistical costs and currency risks, ultimately making vehicles more accessible. Kazakhstan residents are already seeing results: following the first vehicle batch from Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan, prices for domestically produced Chery, Changan, and Haval models have dropped by approximately 7-15% since September 16.

Localization helps create jobs, advance engineering competencies, and foster the growth of supporting sectors ranging from auto parts production to service industries. This directly supports the non-commodity economic sector and boosts GDP through added value generated within the country. Localization also creates strategic benefits for international partners: Kazakhstan is emerging as a manufacturing hub with beneficial geographical positioning, access to Eurasian regional markets, and a stable business climate.

"Thus, localization represents our conscious commitment to sustainable industrial growth," summarized Astana Motors' CEO.

It should be noted that KGIR is the Republic of Kazakhstan's premier investment event, conducted annually under the Prime Minister's guidance since 2017. The event has established itself as an effective platform for dialogue between the government and the international investment community, bringing together business leaders, government representatives, international organizations, and development institutions in one venue.
Held for the eighth time in 2025, KGIR has gathered over 700 participants from 40 countries, representing government, business, investment funds, international organizations, and media.
KGIR-2025's central theme is "Innovative Solutions in an Era of Transformation: Kazakhstan as a Center for Sustainable Economic Development." Participants discussed global challenges and investment opportunities, Kazakhstan's role in building sustainable future economies, and the development of infrastructure, industry, energy, technology, and the green economy.
