NEW PUBLIC GARDEN OPENS IN ALMATY, FUNDED BY 1 BILLION TENGE FROM NURLAN SMAGULOV'S FOUNDATION

Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy took part in the official opening ceremony of the new public garden, located to the west of Nazarbayev Avenue and north of Gandhi Street.
Project financing was secured through both state budget funds and private sponsorship, with the Nurlan Smagulov Foundation contributing 1 billion tenge.
The public garden occupies the grounds of the ex-Residence of the President of Kazakhstan.
"This is a historic site in the center of Almaty. The building was severely damaged during the January 2022 events. This place holds great significance for the city's residents. It was President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's decision to construct a public garden on this location for the citizens. We also contributed to this effort; the Nurlan Smagulov Foundation allocated 1 billion tenge, as this is a non-commercial project. The public garden is clearly popular, attracting city dwellers with children, youth, and senior citizens who come here for recreation," stated Aydyn Sultanov, Director of the Nurlan Smagulov Foundation.

The new public garden has become part of a public spaces development program and is aimed at creating a comfortable urban environment. Covering a total area of 4.16 hectares, the project features nearly three hectares of landscaped greenery.
A complete set of engineering and improvement works was carried out during the construction. The area is equipped with modern lighting and automated irrigation systems, features over 10,000 square meters of pedestrian walkways, and includes recreation zones with 77 benches and 52 trash bins. Large-scale landscaping was carried out: 425 trees were planted (including 166 coniferous and 259 deciduous species), as well as 590 shrubs - 351 coniferous and 239 deciduous.
A distinctive feature of the new public garden is an artificial pond, which will be used as a skating rink in the winter. This will create additional space for active recreation and attract visitors year-round.

Experts report that climate-resistant materials and eco-friendly technologies were used in the landscaping. The new public garden blends organically into the central city's green framework and now serves as a comfortable recreational area for locals.
The development of such public spaces enhances the quality of the urban environment, promotes the formation of green zones, and creates conditions for citizens' active recreation.
The Public Space Development Office reports that Almaty is steadily executing projects to establish parks, public gardens, and green zones. New walking and recreational areas are appearing in every district of the city.

It should be noted that the Nurlan Smagulov Foundation is a private charitable organization whose primary mission is to support and develop culture, art, sports, and socially significant projects, as well as to create new opportunities for the country's talented people.
From its inception, the Foundation has carried out several major projects, including acquiring 264 apartments for flood victims in Uralsk, aiding people with disabilities, supporting educational institutions, and undertaking cultural and artistic initiatives.
