The Hyundai passenger car plant has been in operation since October 2020. The plant’s capacity is 50,000 vehicles annually.
The total area of the plant is 40,000 sq. m. Currently, production facilities are being expanded and preparations are being made to modernize plant workshops to increase the scope of CKD production and launch new models made using welding and painting.
A cluster of enterprises for the production of auto components is under construction near the plant.
Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan produces 10 Hyundai models, including the Tucson, the Accent, the Sonata, the Elantra, the Santa Fe, the Palisade, the Staria, the i30, and the Bayon; production of the Hyundai i20 model began in 2023. The plant produces Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Tucson cars using a full production cycle including welding, painting, and assembly.

Each car manufactured by Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan is inspected to meet the high Hyundai standards. All plant operations comply fully with the approved technological process and the Hyundai Motor Company standards.
Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan has built an engineering personnel reserve. Today, the company has more than 1,300 employees.
The Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Development Bank of Kazakhstan, the Industrial Development Fund, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the KazakhExport Export Insurance Company, and Akimat of Almaty.
Hyundai Trans Almaty has been in operation since 2011, manufacturing commercial vehicles, buses, and specialized machinery of the Hyundai, Golden Dragon, MAZ, and Foton brands, including ambulances based on the Hyundai H350 and the Foton Toano, tanker fire trucks based on the Hyundai Pavise, and rapid response fire trucks based on the Foton.

In 2023, the production area of Hyundai Trans Almaty was expanded; two CKD lines with welding and painting were launched: one for Hyundai trucks and one for Golden Dragon buses. In 2023, 425 city buses and 200 school buses of the Golden Dragon brand were produced.
Production of Foton commercial vehicles was launched.
Currently, additional construction of new workshops is underway, where a painting line with cataphoresis baths will be installed, including technological operations for car welding and painting. The total production area will be 13,518 sq. m. Investments in production expansion amount to 6.8 bln tenge, with total investments to amount to 13.4 bln tenge.
In 2024, the plant plans to produce two more new models using the CKD method: to launch the production of the Hyundai Porter truck and resume the production of the Hyundai County bus.
Hyundai Trans Almaty plans to open a Kazakh-Chinese training center together with Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd to train engineering and technical personnel for the automotive industry.

The production area will be more than 200,000 sq. m. The total cost of the project is 164 bln tenge.
The planned production capacity of the multi-brand plant is 90,000 units annually, so new cars will roll off the assembly line every 2.5 minutes. The plant will produce all cars using CKD assembly including body welding and painting operations.
Astana Motors plans to supply 40% of the produced cars to the domestic market and 60% for export.
A cluster of enterprises for the production of auto components is being built near the automobile plants.
The enterprises will produce car seats, polyurethane mats, fender liners, mud flaps, and multimedia systems for Hyundai cars, together with foreign partners with expertise in auto component production.
Currently, construction work is underway on an area of more than 10 ha.
The enterprises are due to be launched at the end of 2024. The three auto component enterprises are expected to employ over 400 personnel.
Investments in the construction of the auto component production cluster in Almaty will total about 15.4 bln tenge.

The project to establish a cluster of enterprises for the production of auto components in the Almaty Industrial Zone is of strategic importance, as it will help not only to further develop the local automotive industry and deepen localization, but also to develop small and medium-sized businesses and foster qualified engineering personnel.
