Almaty Museum of Arts is the first private museum of contemporary art in Central Asia, founded by Nurlan Smagulov. The museum will hold a collection of contemporary Kazakh and international art collected over the past thirty years. The museum’s program will focus on contemporary art in various media, reflecting the current state of affairs in Central Asia and beyond. The museum will offer a wide range of educational and cultural programs for children and adults, the general public, and the artistic community. The museum will be a welcoming public space that will offer visitors top-class experience.

The museum building was designed by Chapman Taylor, a British architect firm which authored buildings in more than 60 countries, together with Lord Cultural Resources, an international museum planning consultancy, and Buro Happold engineering consultants.

The building will house halls for temporary and permanent exhibitions designed to meet international museum standards, a multifunctional hall, a storage facility, a restoration workshop, educational workshops, a café, and a shop.
