During his trip to Almaty, Alikhan Smailov visited Hyundai Trans Almaty, a commercial vehicle plant and a subsidiary of Astana Motors. The plant has been manufacturing buses, intensive care ambulances, flatbed trucks, insulated vans, manufactured goods vans, refrigerators, fire trucks, garbage trucks, water carriers, tow trucks, and other trucks, specialized machinery for small and medium businesses and government agencies since 2011.

The enterprise has already adopted CKD production of Hyundai County models and MAZ dump trucks and grain carriers.

In 2022, Hyundai Trans Almaty completed another stage of plant expansion and equipment upgrade and adopted CKD production of EURO-5 standard Golden Dragon buses involving body welding and painting.

In the first quarter of 2023, the plant started a CKD assembly line for Hyundai EX6, EX8, and EX9 medium duty trucks.

By July 2024, the enterprise plans to implement the next stage: the production facilities will be expanded, the headcount will be increased to 350 people, a CKD assembly line for the updated Hyundai County and the Hyundai Porter light truck will be put in place.

In 2023, Hyundai Trans Almaty will start supplying school buses under the national program for upgrading the school bus fleets in Kazakhstan’s regions. The plant manufactures modern, spacious, bright, and safe Golden Dragon school buses.

«In 12 years, the enterprise has significantly strengthened its position on the market. We fully support its plans to make investments and expand the line-up. The Head of State has tasked the city’s Akimat with providing the population with comfortable vehicles and reducing the environmental impact. Therefore, these operations are of great significance not only for the city but for the whole republic as well,” Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister underlined.

Hyundai Trans Almaty is increasing localization through welding and painting of various vehicle models. Hyundai Trans Almaty’s operations make it possible for government agencies to promptly renew their fleets, and for domestic companies to make profitable investments in business development. The key benefit of the plant’s products is the price and quality ratio.

«We have invested 6.6 billion tenge in the construction of Hyundai Trans Almaty and the plant’s equipment. In 12 years, the total amount of taxes paid to the state revenue has exceeded 4 billion tenge. Once transitioned to the full cycle, the plant increased the Kazakh content in manufacturing through the adoption of the Golden Dragon bus welding and painting technology, created additional jobs, expanded production capacities, which will give a new drive to the development of exports by the republic’s car industry,”Astana Motors President Nurlan Smagulov noted.

Since 2019, Hyundai Trans Almaty has set up the production of Hyundai H350, including Hyundai H350 Ambulances. Today, during the Prime Minister’s visit to Almaty, the Nurlan Smagulov Foundation donated to the Almaty Public Health Department two class C H350 Ambulances equipped with defibrillators, lung ventilators, electrocardiographs, and other medical equipment from Germany and Italy for the city’s health facilities.

Apart from that, the Prime Minister checked out the Astana Motors development plan, particularly, for setting up and developing a technology cluster in the Almaty Industrial Zone.

«We are creating an automotive industry cluster in the Almaty Industrial Zone to localize the manufacturing of car seats, multimedia systems, plastic and rubber goods. Setting up a technology park in Almaty will contribute to the development of small and medium businesses in Kazakhstan and the establishment of a pool of skilled car making labor,” Astana Motors CEOBeknur Nessipbayev said.

It should be reminded that in November 2022 Astana Motors started the construction of a full-cycle multi-brand plant in the Almaty Industrial Zone for CKD assembly involving welding and painting of Chery, Haval, and Changan cars.
