GWM Enters the Polish Market with Astana Motors

Kazakhstani company Astana Motors has secured distribution rights for Great Wall Motor (GWM) in Poland. The announcement was made by Astana Motors founder Nurlan Smagulov at the Auto China show in Beijing.
“GWM was the first Chinese automotive brand in Astana Motors’ portfolio and has gained strong popularity among SUV and crossover customers thanks to its reliability, safety, and advanced technologies. Together with GWM, we are now entering Poland, the largest economy in Central Europe. This is an important and responsible step for us,” commented Nurlan Smagulov, founder of Astana Motors.

The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its automotive business across European Union markets. In March, a distribution agreement was signed in Warsaw, alongside meetings with dealers during a dedicated dealer conference.
In Poland, GWM will offer electric vehicles as well as petrol and hybrid crossovers and SUVs under the Haval, Ora, Tank, and Wey brands, along with GWM pickup trucks. Sales are set to begin in summer this year with the ORA 5 model. Vehicles will be supplied directly from China.

By the time of launch in Poland, 10 dealerships will be operational. The network is expected to expand to 20 by the end of 2026. In parallel, service and logistics infrastructure will be established to support supply chains and aftersales operations.

GWM is among China’s largest automotive groups. The company has partnered with Astana Motors since 2021. Over five years, a network of 35 Haval and Tank dealerships has been established across 20 cities in Kazakhstan, including Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent. More than 34,000 vehicles have been sold, with a market share of 6.5%.
In addition, Haval and Tank vehicles are produced locally at the multi-brand Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan plant in Almaty. The facility meets international standards and is one of the largest automotive projects in the country. Production of GWM pickup trucks — Wingle 7 and Poer — has also been launched at Astana Motors’ commercial vehicle plant.
Poland is the largest automotive market in Central Europe. GWM’s entry under Astana Motors’ management is expected to intensify competition in the SUV segment and reflects the growing presence of Chinese automakers in the European Union.
