Astana Motors and BYD have agreed to develop a network of BYD Flash Charge ultra-fast charging stations in Kazakhstan. A memorandum of understanding was signed by Beknur Nessipbayev, CEO of Astana Motors, and Ivan Cao, CEO of BYD Central Asia.

The memorandum was signed on 16 July during a meeting between Zhaslan Madiyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and BYD’s senior management. The meeting took place during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to China.

The memorandum provides for the development of a nationwide network of BYD Flash Charge ultra-fast charging stations across Kazakhstan.

During the first phase, ultra-fast charging stations will be installed in Almaty. The network will subsequently expand to other major cities and key transport corridors across the country.

The new infrastructure is expected to support the growth of Kazakhstan’s electric vehicle market, improve access to ultra-fast charging, and create favourable conditions for the further development of electric mobility. The project also includes the deployment of BYD’s charging infrastructure technologies.

BYD unveiled its Flash Charge technology at Auto China 2026 in spring 2026.

Designed for BYD’s next-generation battery technology, the system enables charging from 10% to 90% in just nine minutes. At temperatures as low as -30°C, charging to 90% takes approximately 12 minutes, making the process comparable in duration to refuelling a conventional vehicle.

Flash Charge stations, with power outputs of up to 1,500 kW, are equipped with energy storage systems that enable ultra-fast charging without overloading the power grid.

Official sales of BYD vehicles in Kazakhstan began in January 2025. The brand is officially distributed by Astana Motors. Today, the BYD dealer network comprises 20 dealerships across 13 cities in Kazakhstan.
