Astana Motors and South Korea’s THN Corporation Establish a Joint Venture in Kazakhstan

A new automotive component localisation project is being launched in Kazakhstan. Astana Motors and the Republic of Korea’s THN Corporation are establishing a joint venture, Kazakhstan Wire Systems, to manufacture automotive wiring harnesses.
The agreement was signed in Almaty by Chae Seounghoon, CEO of THN Corporation, and Beknur Nessipbayev, CEO of Astana Motors.
The new production facility will become part of the Astana Motors Industrial Park in Almaty. Total investment in the project amounts to US$4.6 million, or approximately KZT 2.3 billion. Production launch is scheduled for the end of 2026.

The project partner, THN Corporation, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automotive wiring harnesses. The company was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Daegu, Republic of Korea. In 2007, THN received a five-star certification for compliance with Hyundai and Kia technological standards and serves as an official supplier to Hyundai Motor Group. THN’s manufacturing network spans South Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mexico, Paraguay, Brazil, and several other countries. The company is also engaged in research and development in automotive electronics, including high-voltage wiring harnesses for electric vehicles.
“ THN Corporation is one of the key suppliers to Hyundai Motor Group, providing wire harnesses to Hyundai and Kia manufacturing plants worldwide. The establishment of this joint venture creates new opportunities in Kazakhstan for the development of local automotive component production and the expansion of the country’s technological capabilities,” said Beknur Nessipbayev.
At the first stage, the enterprise will employ approximately 200 people. In 2027, the workforce is expected to increase to 500 employees. A distinctive feature of the production facility will be the high proportion of women in the workforce. According to company estimates, women will account for around 70% of all employees.
An automotive wiring harness is a complex system of cables, connectors, and terminals that enables the operation of all electronic systems within a vehicle. Wiring harnesses transmit power and signals for the engine, safety systems, multimedia functions, lighting, and driver assistance technologies.

Production of wiring harnesses for Kia Sportage vehicles is scheduled to begin in Kazakhstan in December 2026, followed by wiring harnesses for Hyundai Tucson vehicles in 2027. In the future, the company plans to expand production to supply Chinese automotive brands.
Localisation of this component will help increase the share of Kazakhstan-made content in domestically produced vehicles.
